Milltown Soccer Fall 2010 registration is now open!
You might ask, why in the world is Fall soccer registration open already. Great question! There are a few reasons:
First, we are once again teamed up with the Portland Timbers for their Opening Night at PGE Park on Saturday, April 17th. ALL registered Milltown players will be able to get on the field and participate in very special activities that we were able to secure for our members. This will be a night to remember for our kids. We need to make sure that we have 500 Milltown players/family members/friends at the game so we can once again secure this opportunity for opening night next year when the Timber’s will be part of the prestigious MLS league. The first 200 Milltown registrants on our website, before April 1st, will receive a FREE ticket for opening night. Additional tickets can be purchased when completing registration for just $12 each. PLEASE SUPPORT THIS ENDEVOUR AS WE WANT OUR MEMBERS TO EXPERIENCE THE FUN AND EXPERIENCE OF PROFESSIONAL SOCCER.
Second, making sure we have all the necessary equipment, jersey’s, fields, coaches and other requirements for our 1000 players is a time consuming task for our all volunteer crew.
What’s up at Milltown:
NEW HEAD COACH Jason McMillen is our new head coach. Milltown’s priority this year is to improve the overall coaching experience for our players and coaches. Jason has a tremendous amount of coaching experience including at the highest levels. He will develop an age specific SUGGESSTED curriculum for each of our age groupings. He is organizing more coaching clinics for our coaches that will help make our coaches better coaches. He will reach out to his soccer contacts and help us build relationships with the various soccer clubs and schools that will improve the overall soccer experience for our players. He will help keep things FUN.
TOPSoccer TOPSoccer is a national program designed for kids with special needs. Sam Roloff will head up this program that is new to us. We will have special soccer balls with bells in them, oversized balls and other ways that will provide a great soccer experience for those that may not otherwise participate in our traditional soccer program. Games will be organized based on abilities, not age. For more information or to help Sam, please email us at

MORE COMPETITION We are working with our league, THJSL, to try to develop an offering for those kids wanting a more competitive offering without having to make the commitment to classic soccer. We would like to see the league offer Friday night pickup games at the very least this year. Field availability is a major issue for us and all clubs and sports. Milltown is committed to trying to develop this program while keeping our players normal teams intact.
KICK AND CHASE FIELD LOCATION At this time, we are unsure where our program will be located this year. Parking at PCC Rock Creek created many issues for all. We are working on solving these issues and it may include the program being at a different location.
DATABASE We are installing a new database that will allow us to better communicate with our members in a more timely fashion.
NEW REGISTRATION INTERFACE This is a much quicker and cleaner way for you to register. Team formations this year will be based on coach request, from a drop down menu, and school.
VOLUNTEERS Milltown has an awesome all volunteer base that has been phenomenal. We have so much more we want to do BUT we need a couple more volunteers. Immediate needs are: Field rep (very important position that works w/ our league to secure our fields and assign our fields to our teams), Merchandise manager, Secretary, and Additional Head and Assistant Coaches. CAMPS We will once again host the British Challenger Camp this summer. This year it will be the week of June 21st through June 25th. It will be located at the THPRD Rec facilities located at 158th and Walker Road. Please register off our website by clicking on the Challenger logo for this camp. We will be hosting other camps as well so stay tuned…
What’s not changing:
www.milltownsoccer.org is still our website. We plan on our members playing in Nike jersey’s again with the kids keeping them. Adams and Faith Photography did a terrific job and will be our photographer again. Email is the best way to communicate with us. Fun – we will continue to have fun.
We remain committed to trying to provide the best possible rec soccer experience at an affordable price. We are committed to being innovative and trying to offer our members more. We are committed on trying to bring our community even closer together. We will have several special events so stay up to date via our website, emails, Facebook, and Twitter communications.
I personally want to thank all of our volunteers. In particular: Linda, Sonny, Meralee, Shannon, Neerav, Mike, Jason, Erik, Mark, Sherry, Lori, Kellie, Sam, Dave, Susan, Ed, Joel, Saeed, Lisa, and especially all our coaches. THANK YOU for your dedication and efforts. You guys are fun, very capable, and a tremendous asset to this club. Milltown is an all volunteer organization that simply could not exist without your efforts.
Thank you for supporting your child and their athletics experience’s. Thank you for supporting Milltown Soccer. We are working hard to provide your family with the best possible recreational soccer experience at an affordable price. We look forward to your family participating in our program again this year.
