MORE COMPETiTIVE SOCCER Milltown STRIVES to offer the best possible rec soccer experience. Part of this means having an offering that meets the specific competitive level that player wants to participate at.
Our state soccer organization, Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA), offers a league called the Portland Metro League (PML). Their spring PML will be for U11-U19 players and has traditionally been a competitive league, but the lower division is very appropriate for stronger recreational teams and players seeking a more challenging soccer experience. We are encouraging our U11-U19 players who want a more competitive experience to register for this experience through Milltown.
We are also working with our state soccer association and our league to help create and structure a “middle ground” recreational soccer program for those wanting more than rec and less than classic. If successful, this may be a better option than the PML described above for recreational teams and players who want to challenge themselves more than our traditional recreational leagues do. Details may change a bit as we help move this Portland area effort forward.
Kids can register for BOTH their spring rec team AND/OR their gender/age Milltown PML team. Two registration fees would be charged if a player is on their rec team and a PML team. Team formation and coaching will be at the discretion of Milltown and dependent upon the level of demand. We will email those registered players more info late January.
We will get all our PML players together on Saturday February 11th.

Many folks behind the scenes have heard my story.
My parents divorced when I was in the 4th grade. My world crashed in around me as things drastically changed in our household.
Mike Harvey was my soccer coach in Centralia Washington. He knew my family situation. Every practice and every game he picked me up and took me home every year through the 8th grade. He was a stable force in my life I could count on. He provided me the transportation I needed that my mother couldn’t provide as she was working very hard to provide for her family.
After I graduated from college, Mike and his wife, Linda, continued to support me as my career was getting launched. We kept in touch over the years and they have always been so supportive and kind.
As last soccer season ended, I called Mike and thanked him. I told him it took me two years of being president of Milltown to realize the reason I was so passionate about Milltown was him. He made a HUGE difference in my life and I feel I/we can make a difference in other peoples lives via soccer and our caring and our mentoring.
Today I received a call from my mom that Mike had passed away. It was sudden. Its a shock.
I feel fortunate that I had an opportunity to thank him. I feel fortunate that just two weeks ago my wonderful wife Stacey called Mike and spoke with him and invited him to our coaches celebration and my swan song celebration. I hope Mike realized he impact he has had, I think he knew. I know I am very proud and thankful of having him in my life.
Without Mike, I feel I would have possibly gone down a differnt path that several of my friends chose. That path would not have been one that would have allowed me to grow and pursue the dreams and passions I have.
Coaches make a difference. Coaches care. Coaches are important. Coaches make sacrafices.
To all our Milltown coaches, THANK YOU! You do not know which players, or even their family members, you may be positively impacting. You are amazing and such an important part of our community.
Mike, THANK YOU! You have been an amazing force in my, and so many others, lives.
RIP

2011 was an amazing soccer year for Milltown United!
We combined two of the areas leading soccer clubs that have been around since the early 1970’s, Milltown Soccer Club and Cedar Splinters Soccer Club, into a new, stronger, better club with a new name: Milltown United Soccer Club.
We offered spring soccer for the first time with 20 teams entered. We had nearly 1,500 players in our fall soccer program, our futsal program is gaining momentum. We blazed the trail by going gender specific with our "Kick and Chase" program for our 5 and 6 year olds.
At the community level, how about those Timber’s? It was so special for our club and our families to be such a huge part of the Timbers opening MLS night. Follow that up by our kids also being on the field, meeting the Timbers players for the Vancouver game, wow. Icing on the cake, how about when our girls were on the field high fiving our Nations best women’s players as they entered Jeld-Wen Field and challenged Canada.
The positive feedback we have received makes it clear to us we are on the right path. We will continue to involve our community and strive to offer the best possible rec soccer experience.
Stay tuned for 2012....... we have a few more things up our sleeve we are working on........
Thank YOU for your support.

Futsal is BACK!
Freddie Braun is once again heading up our futsal program. We run this program Monday through Thursday from 6 to 7pm and 7 to 8pm at Bonny Slope Elementary School in their gym.
These sessions include some training and a lot of game play time in a pick up game format.
We are selling punch cards this year in $20 and $50 increments that can be shared with siblings and friends.
Tuesdays are for 5-8 year olds.
If you would like more information OR get involved in team play, email coaches@milltownunited.com.
Still unsure what this is all about? Go to youtube.com and search futsal to get an idea of what this fast action, fast passing, EXCITING game is.
